Cass "Fish" U.
Ink and watercolor illustrator
About
Hello!! Thank you for visiting! My name is Cass or Fish, and I am a self-taught ink and watercolor illustrator and teacher based in Georgia, USA. My work centers around manga-style art with a focus on dynamic posing and characters, background art, and line work. I also dabble in various other mediums and styles, such as digital art, realism, and landscape painting. After an 8 year hiatus, I got back into art in 2024 with a New Years' Resolution to start drawing again every day. Through a strange turn of events stemming from that decision I went from graduating college with a degree in Agricultural Science at the end of 2024 to doing art full time in 2025. I am constantly working to improve and refine my art skills and knowledge, as well as share it with others. It is my hope for other artists to come to love their work and become their own favorite artist!I am currently working on an original manga-style webcomic called Best Savored After Dark. I am hoping to publish chapter 1 in January 2026! Please check out the BSAD tab for more information.

18+Chapter 1 synopsis
During the day Bloody Good Coffee is your average local coffee shop, but at night it becomes the local social hub for nonhumans; Creatures from folklore many of us know and some many of us do not. Everyone’s worlds are suddenly turned upside down when Aaliyah, a normal human from the day shift, becomes able to interact with the nonhumans on the night shift. Somehow the nonhumans seem more confused and intrigued by this than Aaliyah herself; Humans aren’t able to interact with them normally. Now Aaliyah must learn how to navigate having a foot in both worlds, guided by her boss who keeps claiming he’s a vampire. But that’s ridiculous, right? There’s no way. And if he is… what a stupid name for a coffee shop.

Aaliyah Aguilar (top left): Aaliyah is a college student and a barista at Bloody Good Coffee. One day she experiences a strange event and becomes able to see and interact with the nonhuman world; normally humans cannot see or interact with nonhumans. After this event Aaliyah begins working on the night shift at Bloody Good Coffee where primarily nonhuman customers are served. Facing new and scary experiences while trying to learn what exactly happened to her, Aaliyah has to learn how to live with a foot in both worlds.
Lance Duval (bottom left): Lance is the owner of Bloody Good Coffee and runs the night shift of the coffee shop alone until Aaliyah comes along. He is also a Regional Special Agent for the Agency of Nonhuman Affairs; He routinely has to deal with abnormal situations that risk causing hysteria in the human world if not contained. Once Aaliyah joins him on the night shift it draws his attention to a series of abnormal events that, previously assumed to be stand-alone, now appear to be connected.
Nayeli Flores (bottom middle): Nayeli is a regular customer at Bloody Good Coffee. She is the lead singer and bassist in the local jazz-punk fusion band The Midnight Magnolias.
Beckette Yarborough (top middle): Beck is a kinda significant other to Lance which has brought them in contact with the other characters at the coffee shop. "Kinda" as in… Lance thinks they’re friends with benefits, Beck wants and considers them a serious relationship. Uh oh. They’re an EMT with the medical branch of the Agency of Nonhuman Affairs and specialize in humanoid care. They are also a recent addition to The Midnight Magnolias as both the lead and supporting guitars.
Diah Vasileiou (top right): Diah is a regular customer at Bloody Good Coffee. He is the director of Research and Development at the Agency of Nonhuman Affairs; his personal area of expertise is physics and nonhuman biology.
Kai Ishitani (bottom right): He's a secret :^) But here he is!
I started writing BSAD in November 2024 after being displaced from Hurricane Helene; our region was devastated from the impacts of the storm. A tree had destroyed a large section of our house and we were displaced for 5 months. I was also in the house when it occurred and had seen a few neighbors pass away due to the hurricane. During this time I began writing in my freetime to cope with and distract myself from our situation. Eventually those writings turned into what is currently BSAD.I want to tell a story that is both fun and meaningful. A lot of the characters in BSAD have elements and traits that are taken from people I love. It is silly and strange with fantastical situations, but it is also a love letter to my friends, the queer community, and the struggles and complexities of life. I hope others can enjoy it as much as I do.
When will chapter 1 be complete? - I am hoping to have chapter 1 complete and uploaded in January 2026
Where can I read BSAD? - Currently, I do not know where it will be uploaded. Other than some writing input from some friends this is a one-man project, so I am currently focus on just completing chapter 1. Once chapter 1 is mostly complete I will work out where it will be uploaded! I will update my social media as soon as I know.
Where can I see more for BSAD? - I upload all my extra art, sketches, and character info on my social media. Primarily I post about this on my Bluesky, but there is some extra art also posted to Instagram.
How are you making this comic? - BSAD is made using mixed media, combining traditional inking and digital art. The page layout, planning, backgrounds, and character are are all sketched traditionally on paper. All the character and object line art is inked traditionally with dip pen and ink. Backgrounds, toning, text, and final layout lines are done digitally. Since I am making BSAD by myself, this process allows me the greatest efficiency for my skillset.
