About
"I want to become my own favorite artist. What does it take to make that happen?"This mantra has lead me to places many artists wouldn't go with a gun. I approach art in a way that makes my peers say, "oh my god, have you considered actually relaxing and having fun?" That's a real quote, by the way. Don't worry, I'm very serious about having fun.I am a self-taught artist with absurd ambitions, and I'm deadset on achieving them regardless of the difficulty. It sounds counterintuitive, but I think you have to get quite serious to truly have fun with your craft. If studying and practicing the difficult technical aspects is what it takes to create something I deeply love and have fun with, then I will put in the time and effort to make it happen. And I will take any opportunity I can to teach others how to do it too, so there can be more fun, deeply-loved art in the world.My primary body of work is Best Savored After Dark, a thriller manga set at a small-town coffee shop filled with equal parts horror and wonder. Creating a manga is a childhood dream of mine; I am very inspired by the works of Tite Kubo, Ryoko Kui, Kamome Shirahama, Mokumokuren, and Ryogo Narita. I enjoy a particular balance of comedy and seriousness in fiction, so my story is based on a mixture of the real-world events and absurdity, and fictional elements I find fun. The characters I have created for it are a love letter to my friends, community, and my past self. We often aren't given the opportunity to be seen as relateable main characters, but I have the power to create a story where we are. Maybe it's not everyone's cup of tea (or rather, coffee), but I'm serving it, so you may as well indulge me and give it a taste. BSAD is free to read on Comic Fury, with new chapters uploaded every 3 months.My secondary body of work is my watercolor landscape paintings. This is just something I picked up for when I need a break from Best Savored After Dark, which takes up 90% of my time. I think there are very few joys in this world that rival watching watercolor paint flow across a page. If there are mediums that comes close to magic, this is one of them.
